Textbook: Stewart, Calculus.


Software: We will sometimes make use of the computer program Maple

to do calculations and graphics. A guide to the use of Maple is available on the course website.


Syllabus: Topics corresponding to Chapters 6 through 11 of Stewart's book.

Recitations: Recitations will be conducted by the TA. Attendance is required and occasional pop quizzes will be given.


Homework: There will be weekly homework, counting for 1/3 of the overall grade. The homework will always be due at the beginning of a class period. No late homework will be accepted. Solutions will be available at the website. Your lowest three homework scores will be dropped.


Exams: There will be three 80-minute tests.

Test #1: Th, Feb 13. Test #2: Tu, March 25. Test #3: Th, April 24.

Each of your best two scores will count for 1/3 of your overall grade. No make-ups.


Participation: Certificates awarded for active participation in class can be cashed in for extra points on Homework.


Grades: 50% guarantees a D, 65% guarantees a C, 80% guarantees a B, and 90% guarantees an A.


Bail-out dates: Friday, Jan 24, is the last day to drop the class with no record on your transcript.

By the way, that is also the last day to petition the Math Dept to make up an Incomplete.

Friday, March 7, is the last day to resign from the class (with R on transcript).


Prescription for success: Sustained steady effort: starting today! Full use of the human resources available to you: me (in class, during office hours, and by appointment), the TA (in labs, during office hours, and by appointment), and last but definitely not least your fellow students! Get a study-group together!
